This three storey penthouse in Collingwood’s landmark c1876 Yorkshire Brewery embraces the buildings’ history with a modern renovation and interior redesign. Taking full advantage of the exposed brickwork, structural beams and mansard roof we saw it necessary to preserve the impact of place and the spirit of ‘old Melbourne’ but maintain residential scale. The flow of the joinery and detailing between the various spaces give the property visual continuity and connection. A variety of textures and tones are layered to create a homely ambience against the heritage fabric. The aim was for the residence to feel grand and cosy at once.
